Volunteering

There are several ways that you can help Home-Start North Down in a voluntary capacity:

  • by supporting a family as a home-visiting volunteer
  • by supporting families at Family Group sessions
  • by becoming a trustee
  • by helping us with fundraising

Home-Start North Down’s family support volunteers come from many different backgrounds and vary in age but all are either parents themselves or have parenting experience. All volunteers attend a preparation course before being matched with a family. They then take their own individual skills and experience to the families they visit.

Christine, a Home-Start Volunteer says…

“I have been a Home-Start volunteer for the past year and it has had such a positive impact on the family I visit weekly and also for me personally. It is incredible how much of a difference just a couple of hours chatting with Mum or playing with a toddler can make. It’s hugely rewarding and a great privilege.”

The Home-Start North Down Management Committee is made up of local people from a wide range of backgrounds. The main requirements of a trustee are a real interest in the family support work we undertake and a willingness to be involved and active in the running of the charity. The committee ensures correct governance and is responsible for the financial security of the organisation.

Lorna Parsons, Chair of Home-Start North Down Board of Trustees says…

“I am delighted to be involved with the Board of Trustees of this very worthwhile organisation. We strive to ensure sound management practice and governance to comply with Home-Start UK standards, but more importantly, to provide the best quality service to families and to make a difference to parents and children. The Board of Trustees is a dynamic group of people who are passionate about this charity’s work.”
